The Neighbourhood Journey Board – January to March 2014
This is the idea, and the idea is this.
It’s like a noticeboard, but with the word “journey” in the title, because life is a “journey” and because “noticeboard” sounded a bit bland and because “journey board” ties in with my blog title and because sometimes, when you try and make up phrases, you end up googling them to see if they already have a meaning and then you end up learning a lot about hospital administration {pdf} and it turns out to be moderately interesting and you think ooh, I like that.
And then you think right, but, where was I?
And then you go make tea and then you think ah, yes – I was trying to think of a way to invite people to add their blogs to a sort of noticeboard so I – and everyone who reads here, too – can see what they’re planning to get up to over the next few months. And not because we’re all a big bunch of sickos.
How It Works
Your blog details a part of your “journey” in a loose sense of the word, and over the next few months you’ll be writing about something – a topic you’re exploring, a milestone you’re hoping to witness, a season or event you’re planning to experience, a goal you’re working towards, a project you’re undertaking, a destination you’ll be travelling to – and so on and so forth.
You’re probably not planning to write exclusively about that topic, but it will influence the course of your blog for the short-term future. Look, don’t get too hung up on this stuff. Just add your blog to this list by way of introduction, which is the main purpose.
And what I hope is that this will make it easier for everyone in this blogging “neighbourhood” to find and get to know each other. On our journeys. So we don’t get bored.
You’ll be able to find the notice board at any time using the link just up and a bit to the right, under the header. The plan is to publish a new list each three months, so this one’s for what you’re doing roughly from January up to the end of March.

(It turns out you have to click through:)
I finally got around to adding my link. This Feb/March, I’m highlighting my home state of Ohio (USA). There’s more to Ohio than one might think.

Thanks! I’ll look forward to it. Not being from around there at all, I’m sure there’ll be lots of surprises in store for me.

This is a great idea, I never know what I will blog but there is always something. Our internet is on the blink so I can’t see your images hoping to be back to normal tomorrow and back to reading blogs!

I won’t hold you to anything 🙂 .
Oh no, internet on the blink! Very frustrating. I’m sure we used to live without it once upon a time, but I can’t quite remember how…

Seriously what did we all do before the internet, I know I can waste hours just trolling through the online adventures of cats! Lol

Very cool idea. We did have our hearts’ set on #5 in the list…On a completely separate note, we wouldn’t want people posting on a dingy Neighborhood Journey Board, so we would be happy to “contribute” to the Beautification Fund. Let us know how much “paint” is going for nowadays 😉

Ooh! Yours looks interesting as well. Sorry you didn’t get the number five place – that would have been a perfect fit :).
How much is paint. Hm. I’m still kind of working on a beautification plan… got one suggestion through the support forums… do you have any ideas in mind?

I think this classifies as gushing support. You are basically the North Star.

I know I should have a journey, and perhaps that is part of my problem in that I don’t know what mine is at the moment. But I am looking forward to following (and cheering on) everyone else’s journey.

Yeah, I am going to have to totally rebrand this. The pick-a-theme scares people off. I know you, of anyone, has lots of plans (you’re probably just having trouble narrowing it down and/or you’re not sure if this is an appropriate place to mention that you’re *finishing up a whole book*).

Great idea! Ill have to figure out whether I have any actual focus for the next three months. 🙂
As an aside, the hospital learning a sound interesting, too, and quite coincidental now that you’re sick…

True. I wonder what my hospital journey board would look like? I’m not anywhere near sick enough for that so I suspect it would be one cell with “GO HOME” written across it, possibly with exclamation marks.

Love it, and will join when I know where we are heading. Kind of a crossroads now, and waiting for more information from others as well before get some direction.

Sounds like exciting times, if uncertain! But as I said to Joy Loves Travel above – don’t overthink it. It’s meant to be like a party icebreaker, not a Glorious Five Year Plan.

Aye aye, captain! I’ll get there, not really overthinking, just finding out whatwill happen 🙂

Yay – just saw you up there! Looking forward to it. Hope we get a few takers – although I might experiment with a wordpress.com-friendlier format next time if I can find one.

Great idea – need to get thinking and planning!

Well, don’t get too caught up in planning or organising. Remember January counts, so you could always list your “theme” as Croatia – think of it as an icebreaker rather than a detailed to-do list.

Good idea! Half of the blog on those expat blog sites are either gone, went private, or had 3 posts and haven’t updated for 6 years. This will keep track of people and let the neighbourhood know what they are up to.
Are we posting our themes here? A brief intro?

You can post your theme here as well, especially if you need more space or something, but try to give a word or two after your blog title at the site (I may have to tweak this process for next time).
I know exactly what you mean about blogs that close down, and they also evolve so this is an experiment in keeping people up to date!

Oops, too late, you can’t change it after adding your link. Well, my own theme on this main blog has always been helping people who has never been to China understand it a little bit better. My 3 month goal will be to overhaul the blog so people can navigate it easier because I noticed that most visitors don’t go into archives unless they go direct from the search engines. Since I don’t even know how to do half the things you do on this blog, I’ll have a long road ahead of me. 😛
Is it a head cold? Try some lemon honey “tea”, honey on grapefruit, or some ginger “tea”. You are in Japan? Onsen will be awesome. A spa or a foot massage treatment is also great. If you don’t mind coffee, certain types of headaches can be cleared with a good cup of coffee. As for real teas, it should be the season for gyukuro, sencha/shincha right about soon, so you can get those as well.
Do take care. 🙂

Not really a proper head cold (yet?) although tea never goes astray.
I don’t do anything on here you can’t find out about in the wordpress.com support forums – and not even most of that!
I think I’ll have to look out for a system that supports editing. Thanks for adding in the comments anyway!

Yeah still experimenting with this. Not exactly and precisely the tool I want. Plus I’ve come down with the household illness so feeling slightly woolly myself…
It’s just meant to be a link to your general blog with a word or two to describe something you’re writing about in upcoming months. So I just wrote “Japan” after my blog title, with a link to my main URL.

I think it’s late..or my brain is drying up..are you asking for a specific post talking about what we are planning to do for the next three months? Or just a link to our blog and the journey will play out there?
