Poiseidon Underwater Resort

Last year, during our eldest’s oceanic phase, he begged us several times to book a holiday at the Poiseiden Underwater Resort in Fiji. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on whose point of view you took, the resort was (and is) still in the process of being built. I can wait for it to be finished – although I have to admit it would be great to spend a night or two there one day.

Intended For: 3yo P and his entourage.

Overview: Sleep with the fishes, and return to tell the tale. Learn to drive a sports submarine.

What I like: I think the overview pretty much covers this one. Who wouldn’t think it was awesome? Luxury underwater living with reverse-aquarium-style rooms and a restaurant with a truly amazing view. Plus sports subs. I mean, did you click through to the website?

Foreseeable drawbacks and mitigating strategies: Currently no direct flights from Singapore. Stopping over en-route with the Grandparents makes this a lot more pleasant. The price tag gives me pause (rumoured to be around USD$2000/night). P seems to think he will personally be able to drive the sub, which (come to think of it) will probably not be a problem after all given the likelihood of us getting there within the next dozen or so years.

Estimated Price Bracket: Expensive. Definitely.

P's brief foray into the domestic services industry, before he realised how long it would take him to save up for a single night at the Poiseidon Underwater Resort at the rate of twenty cents a chore. (I later tried to convince him it was good training for the hospitality industry, which could be used as option B, but he didn't go for it.)

(I later tried to convince him to keep working on the basis that it would be good training for Plan B – apply for a job on staff – but he didn’t go for it.)
